Dividend Tax Calculator: How Much Tax Will You Pay on Dividends?
Learn how dividend taxes work, how to calculate them, and estimate how much you keep after tax with simple …
Estimate the tax on your dividend income and the after-tax yield at the tax rate you enter, including foreign withholding, with a table of other rates.
Enter the rate that applies to you. If part was already withheld abroad, many countries give a credit, so the extra tax at home is often the difference between the two rates.
| Tax rate | Tax | You keep | After-tax yield |
|---|
Tax is your dividend income times your tax rate, and what is left is your after-tax income. If you enter a yield, the after-tax yield is the yield times one minus the tax rate: a 5% yield taxed at 15% is 4.25%.
Dividend tax rules depend on your country, your income and the type of account. In the United States, for example, qualified dividends are taxed at federal rates of 0%, 15% or 20% depending on income, while ordinary dividends are taxed as regular income, and higher earners may owe an extra surtax. Rules and thresholds change, so check them with your tax authority or a tax adviser. This calculator only applies the rate you enter and is not tax advice.
