How the tracker works

Add each stock or ETF with the number of shares and, if you like, your average cost per share. The tracker uses our daily snapshot of prices and dividends to work out what your portfolio is worth, how much it should pay over the next year, and how concentrated it is.

Your holdings never leave your browser. They are stored on your device, not on our servers, and there is no account. That also means they are not shared between devices: use Export CSV to move them, and Import CSV on the other device. Clearing your browser data removes them, so export a copy now and then.

What the numbers mean

  • Dividends per year is your shares times the dividends paid per share over the last 12 months. It is a trailing figure, not a promise: companies can raise, cut or stop dividends.
  • Portfolio yield divides those dividends by the current value of your holdings.
  • Yield on cost divides the same dividends by what you originally paid, so it rises when you hold a company whose dividend grows. It only covers holdings where you entered a cost.
  • Gain or loss compares price to cost and ignores dividends you have already received.
  • Concentration shows how much of your value and income depends on a single holding or sector. It is a prompt to look closer, not a rule.

CSV format

The file needs a header row with columns named ticker, shares and (optionally) avg_cost, for example:

ticker,shares,avg_cost
KO,60,58
O,120,52

Most broker exports have similar columns (symbol, quantity, average price). If a ticker is not one of the stocks and ETFs we cover, it is skipped and listed so you can see which ones.

Limits

The tracker does not record dividends you have received, trades, taxes or currency. Prices and dividends are from a free source, are updated daily and can contain errors, so check them against your broker. This is an educational tool and not investment advice.
